OC Program Support Volunteer Training

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Outdoor Chattanooga as a program support leader.
Volunteers are a critical piece of providing additional support for programs and events which help to advance the department missions and goals. 

This training will focus on the leader support for the following activities:

Learn to Shoot Archery

Learn to Ride a Bike Instructional Classes

Bike Marshal Support (large group bike rides, events)

Learn to Skateboard Instructional Classes

Itinerary

9:00 am — Orientation of Department of Parks and Outdoors and Outdoor Chattanooga

9:30 am — Leadership Guidelines

10:00 am –Divide into instructional groups for bikes/skateboard. (Archery will be at 11:30 pm-indoors)

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the delivery of outdoor adventure and outdoor recreation programs. These programs as listed above occur on specific calendar dates and times.

•Outfit program participants with appropriate safety gear and equipment.

• Support administrative tasks like participant check-in, confirmations, program reports, and surveys.

• Interact with program participants by fielding questions, providing answers where possible, and/or referring them to Outdoor Chattanooga.

 •Follow all of Outdoor Chattanooga’s required program safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• At least 18 years old 

• Pass a background check 

• Able to work independently and take direction from the Outdoor Chattanooga team members. 

• Intermediate or advanced skills and knowledge of the program being delivered.

• Able to interact with other volunteers, the public, and staff in a professional manner. 

• Be committed to the mission and goals of Chattanooga’s Parks and Outdoors. 

• Able to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, and on varied surface terrain. 

• Able to provide own mode of transportation and appropriate outdoor clothing. 

• Attend orientation and other relevant training as needed.

 • Abide by the rules and regulations of the program and established volunteer policies and procedures as outlined in the Volunteer Handbook. 

• Commit to a minimum of 4 programs or events annually. (Programs are generally 4 to 6 hours each and available at varied days and times throughout the week).

*First and CPR certification preferred, not required.
