This is a beginner class on class I-II moving water for participants in the Rapid Learning Whitewater Program who have attended an introduction class on the lake.

The Rapid Learning Whitewater Program provides formal kayak instruction and guided practice for beginner paddlers to learn how to safely and comfortably paddle up to class III+ whitewater.

River trips are offered in a small group setting with an emphasis on building skills according to the pace of each individual paddler. Our experienced instructors have paddled a variety of rivers worldwide, and follow American Canoe Association (ACA) standards when instructing. Paddlers will learn to “read water”, which is the ability to see and react with various river features, as well as ferrying, peel-outs, eddy catching, and safety. Equipment is provided if needed.

Paddlers are eligible for river trips once they have attended a kayak skills class and demonstrated essential skills such as confident wet exits, basic self-rescue, and can effectively maneuver the kayak with paddle strokes. Registration is required in advance and limited to keep the group size small.

Cost: $35 for Rapid Learning members / $45 for non-members. All kayak equipment is included in the price. There is no discount if you have your own equipment or transport yourself.

Pre-requisite: Have participated in at least one fundamentals of kayaking and skills practice through the Rapid Learning Program at Chester Frost Park Wednesday nights from 6-7 or 7-8 pm. The skills practice is free the first time, then it is a pay ahead/membership program. No membership required if you use all of your own equipment. It takes time to master these skills!
