Rapid Learning RIVER/ Whitewater Kayak Instruction
July 14 @ 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM
The Rapid Learning program provides formal river instruction to beginning paddlers teaching proper techniques and offering guided practice to safely and comfortably paddle moving water up to class III+ whitewater.
These beginner rated river classes are held on class I-II whitewater. This classification of water produces light riffles to regular waves, clear open passages between rocks and ledges and does require some boat control. The classes are offered in a small group setting with the emphasis on building skills according to the pace of each individual paddler. Classes teach paddlers to “read water”, which is the ability to see and react with various river features, as well as ferrying, peel-outs, eddy catching, and safety. Class size is kept small to ensure quality instruction and safety ratio. Equipment is provided if needed. Our instructors are experienced teachers, have paddled a variety of rivers worldwide, and follow American Canoe Association (ACA) standards.
Participants are eligible to attend river trips once they have demonstrated essential skills such as confident wet exits, basic self rescue, and can effectively maneuvering the kayak.
Pre-requisite: Have participated in at least one fundamentals of kayaking and skills practice through the Rapid Learning Program at Chester Frost Park Wednesday nights from 6-7 or 7-8 pm. The skills practice is free the first time, then it is a pay ahead/membership program. No membership required if you use all of your own equipment. It takes time to master these skills! See you on the river.
To Register call Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888 or register at the skills practice. Additional details are provided at this time.
River trip fees do apply.
