NPS Partners: Lookout Creek Canoe Tour
July 20 @ 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Join Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga for a FREE, 3-hour guided canoe tour to explore Chattanooga’s Civil War waterways as a National Park Ranger provides a historical narrative of Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend. The National Park Partners and Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga sponsor these free events to give visitors the opportunity to paddle the quiet waters of Lookout Creek and the Tennessee River to learn about the rich Civil War and American Indian history associated with Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend from a National Park Ranger and historian. The following reservation and paddler requirements must be met prior to tour participation.
ONLINE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED:
Online reservations open up 2 weeks prior to the scheduled tour date. Click the link to set up an account and make a reservation. Directions to the launch site will be given with a reservation confirmation. National Park Service signs will also be placed at certain locations to assist participants in finding the launch location. Contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888 with questions.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of these free tours, and limited equipment, we will limit each user to participate in one guided canoe/kayak tour per year.
We cannot accommodate individuals with their own watercraft(s) on this tour. These tours are intended to be guided and equipped with limited space in the shuttle vehicles and on the canoe trailers that transport people and equipment. Thanks for your understanding.
At least one “adult” (18+) must be in each canoe.
Children must be at least 13 years old to participate.
Some paddling experience is helpful but not required to participate. Participants must know how to swim and will be required to wear a lifejacket at all times on the water.
Outdoor Chattanooga and the National Park Service reserve the right to cancel a trip at any time at their discretion, due to weather or water conditions. Participants will be notified as soon as possible if there is a cancellation. If you must cancel your reservation for any reason, please try to do so with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice as a courtesy for individuals on the waitlist that would love to have the experience. If you make a reservation, and don’t attend and do not call to cancel in advance, your account will be flagged and you won’t be eligible to register for any other guided tours in a calendar year.
National Park Partners (NPP) teams up with Outdoor Chattanooga to offer a variety of Ranger-guided educational and recreational tours of our National Military Park. NPP dedicates funding every year for Outdoor Chattanooga to provide bicycles, canoes or kayaks, free of charge, to tour participants.
