NPS Lookout Creek Canoe Tour

August 17 @ 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM

Join Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park in partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga for a free, 3.5-hour, guided canoe tour on Lookout Creek and the Tennessee River as a National Park Ranger provides a historical narrative of Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend. The National Park Partners sponsor these free events to give visitors the opportunity to explore Chattanooga’s Civil War waterways and learn about the rich Civil War and American Indian history associated with Lookout Mountain and Moccasin Bend.

All the canoe equipment is provided (tandem canoe, paddle, and lifejacket). This historical canoe tour is appropriate for ages 10+ when accompanied by an adult. Some prior canoeing/paddling experience is helpful but not required to participate in this tour. Prior to departure, you’ll receive basic paddling instruction, water safety information and be properly outfitted in a lifejacket and canoe. Guides will provide on-water support throughout the duration of the tour, which lasts approximately 3 hours.

Reservations are required in advance as space is limited. To make a reservation, please visit our online catalog at http://bit.ly/outdoorchatt or call 423-643-6888.

This is intended to be a guided and equipped Canoe Tour from Lookout Creek to Brown’s Ferry. We cannot accommodate individuals with their own watercraft(s) on this tour because we provide a shuttle and have limited room in the vehicles and on the canoe trailer.

Due to the popularity of these free tours, we limit registration to once per year. You must create an account to register and if you have multiple people that you’d like to register for, each individual needs to be listed as an account user or be associated with an account member. This helps us track who is participating, ages, etc.

We use tandem canoes, which means there are two seats per canoe. One person will occupy one seat per canoe and we do our best to pair you with the person of your choice. We may ask some individuals to share a canoe with one of our guides or a park ranger. Smaller children may be required to sit on the floor of the canoe. Please contact us with questions prior to registering. We are strict on the age limit due to TN state law booster seat requirements. This is a shuttled tour. Thanks for your understanding.
