NPS Guided Kayak Tour to Patton Island
April 10 @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Join Outdoor Chattanooga and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park for a special kayak tour and hike to discover Confederate Earthworks on Patton Island. This FREE program is made possible through the support of the National Park Partners. It includes all paddle equipment, a guided tour with a Park Ranger/historian, and on-water support from Outdoor Chattanooga. Participants will enjoy a leisurely paced paddle across Harrison Bay in a sit-in-style kayak and a short 1-mile hike on Patton Island. The program will last approximately 3-4 hours depending on the group’s paddling and hiking abilities. We ask that you are physically able to kayak 2-miles and hike 1-mile on uneven terrain to participate.
ONLINE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED as space is limited. http://bit.ly/outdoorchatt
PADDLER REQUIREMENTS: Participants must be 14 years of age or older and know how to swim.
Outdoor Chattanooga and the National Park Service reserve the right to cancel the trip at any time at their discretion, due to weather or water conditions. Participants will be notified as soon as possible if there is a cancellation. The rain date for this event is April 17. If you must cancel your reservation for any reason, please do so with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice by calling Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.
The National Park Partners teams up with Outdoor Chattanooga to offer Ranger-guided educational and recreational tours. NPP dedicates funding every year for Outdoor Chattanooga to provide bicycles and canoes or kayaks, free of charge, to tour participants. We request participants only register for one free NPS tour per season to allow more people to enjoy these unique and free experiences. (Please Note: All paddling trips require the use of Outdoor Chattanooga equipment. We cannot accommodate individuals with their own watercraft on these tours.)
