North Chickamauga Creek (Sherman’s Crossing) to the confluence of the Tennessee River. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will co-host a Free, 2.5 hour, family friendly kayak tour with an interpretive park ranger from North Chickamauga Creek to Rivermont Park. Prior to the well-known November 25, 1863, Union assault on Missionary Ridge, US General William T. Sherman needed to get his troops from the Tennessee River’s north side to its south side.
This tour will mimic the approximate route Sherman’s pontoon boats took in order to successfully bridge the river and conduct what would be an ill fated assault on Confederate positions atop Missionary Ridge. All equipment is provided. This program is brought to you without a fee and is supported by the National Park Partners and the Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga.
